Research and Idea Generation

To begin my research, I thought about places which I would find potential quotes.
  • Books, Films, Newspapers, TV, Internet, Celebrities, People, Poems, Signs, Adverts, Schools, Songs, Social Media, Pictures, Posters, Tumblr, Memes, Imagination etc.
Ideas:
  • "Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving" - This quotation could use graphics of a bicycle throughout the duration. The word balance could use an effective typeface alongside the stability and lines of the word. The direct address of 'you' would make it feel more personal and effective for the audience. The word moving could physically move along the page.
  • "3 simple rules in life: 1 if you do not go after what you want you'll never have it. 2 if you do not ask, the answer will always be no. 3 If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place." - The numbers could be effective to use. Each step has individual words which could make that phrase stand out. The personal language would make the piece feel more direct and effective. When thinking about the colour theme, each step could hold its own colour theme to show the different stages throughout the sequence.
  • Walt Disney - "Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age and dreams are forever" - As Disney is a playful and child friendly brand this could be reflected throughout the typography used. The original Disney logo is cursive and almost like handwriting, this could link in with the typeface used throughout the sequence; this would also make it clear where the quote is from if anyone was unaware. Timeless could use dimensions of a clock along with sound effects. Also, age could be shown graphically. Dreams are forever is a nice ending therefore this could be ended with a hopeful and pleasant typeface; for example, something cursive.
  • Peter Pan - "Think of all the joy you'll find when you leave the world behind and bid your cares goodbye"- Similar to the previous Disney quote, the cursive writing creates a child like and hopeful theme throughout the sequence. As peter pan is a film, the character could be included throughout the sequence. This could be a cartoon, silhouette or representation depending on the final chosen art design. The colour scheme could also represent Peter Pan as this would show an obvious connection between the two.
  • Ellie Goulding - How long will i love you? Lyrics. "How long will i love you? As long as stars are above you. And longer if i can" - The lyrics from this song use many words which hold a physical representation which everybody would understand without using the word. For example , a heart could be used for love, stars could be used instead of the word. Also, the repetition of the word longer could be shown throughout the typeface (maybe changing colour or becoming bolder). A transition could also be used to expand the length of the word.
  • Calum Scott - Dancing on my own Lyrics. - Similar to Ellie Goulding's song, Calum Scott creates emotion through the words of his song. I feel that this could be effectively portrayed through a range of typefaces. The persona of the character in the song holds a lot of emotions, questions and doubt.
  • "Life is short. Break the rules. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Love Truly. Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile." - I feel that this could be an effective quote to use as the sentences are short and snappy and this could look modern and eye catching when the sequence is complete with background music. Each short sentence uses strong and dominant words which could be presented well. The length of this quote is also suitable for the time frame we have been suggested to produce.
  • "Life is like a camera. Focus on whats important, capture the good times. Develop from the negatives and if things don't work out, take another shot"- This quotation could use a graphic of a camera. Words like Focus and Important could use a typeface which stands out and the words could zoom around the shot to show their importance.
  • "We don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason"- Words such as people and path could use a graphical representation. Where as Cross could have a strong typeface. For the art design, I would use a cartoon and simple style as I feel this quote is positive and sends a happy message out to its audience.
  • Songs: The artist I have picked are well known to portray emotions throughout their music. The specific lyrics I have looked at include words which could be portrayed by a graphic or typeface effectively. For example, In James TW's 'love someone' the graphic symbols of a mom and dad could be used, alongside the graphical representation of love and homes.
  •  "Sometimes moms and dads fall out of love. Sometimes two homes are better than one. Some things you can't tell your sister 'cause she's still too young. Yeah you'll understand. When you love someone." - Mom's and Dad's hold a graphic of a man and a women which could also then develop into a family with a broken heart to show the songs lyrics. I would use a symbolic and simple art style as I feel it could look modern and effective.

  • "Love your curves and all your edges. All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me, I'll give my all to you. You're my end and my beginning. Even when I lose I'm winning. 'Cause I give you all of me. And you give me all of you" - John Legend's lyrics and emotional and have a definite meaning; I feel it would be effective and emotional display through a range of typefaces. I think this quotation from the song may be too long for the recommended duration, however if split in half I feel the quotation wouldn't hold as much meaning and emotion.

  • "Im gonna pick up the pieces and build a lego house. If things go wrong we can knock it down" - The breakdown of the Lego house could be displayed effectively by breaking down the words being presented on screen. The word wrong could be displayed through a bold and aggressive typeface and also has graphical symbols as a representation. Pieces could also be entered onto the screen in separate pieces - I feel this would add interest and dimension to the sequence.
