Visual Effects - Research

Little Red Riding Hood (Classic Fairy tales - Published in 2016 by Bonney Press)
"Oh Grandmother, what big ears you have!" She said. "All the better to hear you with" Was the reply. "Oh Grandmother, what big eyes you have!" She said. "All the better to see you with" was the reply. "Oh Grandmother, what big teeth you have!" She said. "All the better to eat you with!" replied the wolf as he bounded out of bed and gulped down Little Red Riding Hood in one delicious mouthful.
I decided to pick out this quote as I feel I could use visual effects to enhance the features of the wolf. For example, Instead of using a wolf I could use a person and adapt their features to this scene within red riding hood.

The Wizard Of Oz (Ladybird Books)
"Dorothy felt as if she were going up in a balloon. The whirlwind had sucked the house up and carried it away like a feather"
By using visual effects I could make the girl fly using a balloon. I could also take my own photography of a house and adapt it into this magical art style. This could then be moved by a 'feather' - which also creates the magic fairy tale vibe.

The Princess and the pea (Ladybird Books)
"Then one night there was a terrible storm. The lightning flashed, the thunder roared, the wind blew and the rain poured down. In the middle of the storm there was a knock on the door of the castle. The old king went to open the door."
I felt that this quotation had mysterious and cold feelings as I can imagine a dull and old-fashioned mysterious looking castle with candles and brick walls. I could use my own photography of an old fashioned building and create the visual effects of the storm and lightning. I feel the lightning could look effective and suit the scene well.

Beauty and the Beast (Ladybird Books)
"Then, at last, he saw a light in the distance, Thinking it was perhaps the light from a cottage he rode thankfully towards it. However, as he drew nearer to the light, he found that the trees formed a wide avenue. He rode up to the avenue and, to his surprise arrived at the entrance to a palace"
Similar to previous quotes, I feel that this style and art design could work well and portray the fairy tale well. I could film my actor walking on the green screen and then show them in shock as they reach the castle. They could they run in excitement. I could use my own photography of an old fashioned building, maybe a church or cathedral and adapt it to look appropriate. The visual effects would come in use on the background by creating lots of greenery, the light and trees forming a wide avenue.

Alice in Wonderland (Ladybird Books)
"It was a hot a day, and Alice was sleepy. She was wondering whether to get up and make a daisy chain, when suddenly a white rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her"
The rabbit would be the visual effects. On the green screen I would film my character walking about and then becoming sleepy and sitting back down looking around. When creating the visual effects I would use a happy and sunny background filled with bright green grass and flowers.

Roof toppers (Katherine Rundell)
"The bridge was indeed beautiful"
Although this a short quite with not much information I feel it created a variety of visuals in my head. I immediately imagined a bridge on a sunny day with crystal blue water with boats in the water. To recreate this I would use my own photography of the Worcester bridge and then adapt it with new layers to create a sunny and bright day. I would also use visual effects on the water to make it appear bright and blue.

More than this (Patrick Ness)
"There are cars parked along the road, but they're covered in thick layers of dust and dirt, blinding every window. And nearly every one has sunk under four deflated tyres"
I could use my own photography of a busy street and then apply effects to create the dusty and dirty atmosphere.

One Moment (Kristina McBridge)
"Pete, who was standing at the edge of the cliff looking down, gave us a thumbs up before turning away, his thick dreadlocks swaying with his head. He disappeared after only a few steps, the height and angle of the cliff hiding him from our view. And all we could do was wait"
Would use my model infront of the green screen looking around and then insert my cliff background. I could also include more of the background and surroundings including tree's etc.
